Walter Cruz

Walter has been immersed in the creative act in all its forms, from physical performance to oil painting. In his work, he filters the traditional human themes of love, longing, nature and home through a contemporary, urban sensibility. Much of his work is concerned with perspectives of geography and temporality. He positions his canvases as not only an exercise in technical skill and poetry in art, but also as a reflection of lived experience.

His work is drawn both from memory and imagination of alternative worlds created from familiar landscapes of cities, weaved by playfully mixing space and time together through a personal lens. The repetitive perfecting of chosen motifs is central to his work, imbuing his canvases with the paradox of futuristic nostalgia.
